This was my first time seeing this show and I am so pleased I saw it performed by this very talented group of young people. Their attention to detail was second to none
The story of this musical follows Ren McCormack as he arrives from his old home in Chicago to Bomont, together with his mother to stay at her brothers. He finds that Rock and Roll music and dancing has been banned by the town council and the local Minister, all because he lost his son in a tragic accident on a night out. But Ren meets the minister’s daughter, Ariel, and together they embark on a campaign to change all of this.
Georgia Young put together a magnificent cast who all worked well together. Jamie Wilson as Ren and Rat Clancy as Ariel led the company well, wonderful acting and singing. When looking at Ethyn James as Rev. Shaw Moore you could be convinced he was a minster and he had such a mature voice. Bea Bradley did a sterling job as his wife, Vi. Good support came from the remainder of the principals. I do have to mention Euan Barnby as Willard Hewitt; this is a young man with great comic timing.
Charlotte Jervis as choreographer did a fantastic job with the cast. They certainly have a lot of energy especially for the finale. Emily Beaman also did a great job in bringing out the best of the vocal talents in this group.
The set, using projections was outstanding and all credit must go to Music Man and Going Dark for the effective lighting. Costumes suited the production.
This was a production not to be missed and I would like to thank the company for not only the invite to me but to the President of NODA and our Regional Councillor.
You should all be very proud.
