Footloose

The story which unfolds in a small US backward town of Bomont, Utah, where any type of dancing is banned and the young people of Bomont start to rebel, led by the Baptist Minister’s daughter and a young newcomer to the town is convincingly told a by a relatively young cast well supported by the more senior members of the company.

It was refreshing to see some of the youth members making the transition to the adult company and not looking out of place or depth either!

There were some fantastic performances from the young ladies particularly Charlotte White (Ariel Moore), Sian Cameron-Prowse (Rusty), Katie Shuck (Urleen) and Charlotte Foulkes (Wendy Jo)

The young men were not to be out done with an energetic comedic performance from Luke Groves (Willard Hewitt), and David Gwinnutt (Chuck Cranston), Ariel’s long standing nasty boyfriend. But for me it was the talented Joshua Anderson (Ren McCormack) who stole the show with a stylish performance well beyond his years.

There was some fabulous support from the more Senior Members particularly Tim Jones (Reverend Shaw Moore), Karen Cockitt (Viv Moore) and Joasha Jones (Ethel McCormack) who led the line brilliantly.

Gregg Yates (Sergeant Maddison) gave a lesson in how to get the most out of a minor role, and it was nice to see Dave Oakley (Principle Harry Clarke) making a return to the stage. Younger members will definitely benefit from working with them.

There were a few first night technical hitches with staging and sound but this didn’t detract too much from the packed audience’s enjoyment that showed their appreciation with a well deserved standing ovation at the end.
