A fast moving show from this talented company. When Ren (Craig Smith) and his Mother Ethel (Emily Stephens) move from Chicago to Bomont no one knew what was going to happen. Ren meets Ariel Moore (Laura Bowyer) who informs him of some local laws – including a ban on dancing – the brainchild of her father – The Reverend Shaw Moore (Steve Hyett). Ren then sets about trying to persuade the local council to change the law so he can hold a dance. But Rens boyfriend Chuck (Craig Broome) try’s to sabotage Rens reputation. The company performed the production well, even with the sound problems during act one. The main principals acted well and were well supported by James Ellis as Willard Hewitt and Alex Bates, Hannah Watson and Kelly Plater as Rusty, Urleen and Wendy Jo. Both the audience and myself enjoyed Charlene Walker on her Roller Skates. Lighting was good and so were the costumes. The orchestra sounded good and were well balanced. A very enjoyable evening.
