The demanding role of Tevye was ably portrayed with great confidence by Gordon Watson both through his singing and drama. Re-enacting her role of 16 years ago, Margaret Thomson performed Tevye’s patient and forgiving wife Golde without flaw. Their daughters Tzeitel, Chava and Hodel were delightfully played by Emma Rodger, Carly Slamin and Laura Abbas Sabri. Peter Scally provided excellent characterisation as Motel the tailor with strong performances from Ray O’Sullivan as Perchik the student and Cameron King the young Russian, Fyedka. Roland Russell made a wonderful Lazar Wolf especially in his exchange of words in the scene with Tevye in the Inn. As Yente, the gossipy village matchmaker, May Weir also excellently re-enacted her role of 16 years ago. The dream sequence which, was superb, featured the full company and Suzanne Gilliland as Grandma Tzeitel and Kathy Taylor as Fruma Sarah powerfully rising from the dead and flying across the stage. All supporting principals with the chorus and dancers added to what was a splendid show. With beautiful music and a strong story who could fail to enjoy this show making it a wonderful night at the theatre.
