A cabaret style layout in the hall set the scene for a leisurely afternoon’s entertainment of Christmas music, carols, linking stories and information. It started in fine style with an offering of the “Angel’s Carol” by Rutter and ended with “The First Nowell” arranged by Clawson and in between we have songs from Lloyd Webber, Joubert, Handel and Mozart interspersed with well known carols .
Always a feature of their Christmas offering was a fine piano solo from Terry Green. This year it was the Sonata in C by Scarlatti.
Lydia Goodall gave fine renderings of “Chanson Triste” and “II Fervido Desidero”. In the past Lydia had been the recipient of the Company’s bursary. Tettenhall OC are one of the only companies I know that award an annual bursary to one of their members to further their career in the theatre and certainly in Lydia the money has been used to the maximum benefit.
Julian linked all the items with information about the music and the composers and Ian Stephenson’s playing, as always, was a joy to hear.
During the interval afternoon tea was served and a collection was made in aid of their charity for the year “Action for Children”.
The audience joined in the singing of well known carols with gusto and it was a lovely start to the Christmas season.
