On paper a cast of four, in reality the play by Eric Chappell is a two man tale of the relationship between a father and an errant young son. When his wife walks out of the family home taking his daughter and sons with her to live with the 'other man', Henry finds that living as a bachelor has its compensations. At the opening of the play he is firmly ensconced in this way of life but it is swiftly interrupted by the arrival of his eldest son and his 'beatnick' girlfriend. Matthew uses a mix of conman and blackmail tactics to weedle a roof over his head and cash in his pocket. The two men Henry (Graham Seaton) and Matthew (Richard Brand) were very well matched, a ding dong battle of words with all the comedy lines well pointed and good pace throughout. Ex wife Sue (Sue McCormick) makes a late entrance into the action, successfully portraying the wife who jumped out of the frying pan into the fire and Niamh Ingle was very suitably dressed and made up as the girlfriend who is eventually allowed to speak a few final words which allowed the play to come to its conclusion. The audience was very well entertained, well done.
