Director Keith Thomas brought out the best from his talented principals in this very compelling story and wonderful musical score. Che (Nick Wyschna) sang the story of Evita, his rich baritone voice and excellent diction were a joy to listen to. Juan Peron (Martin Sampson) made the most of his role as would be President. Eva Peron (Jo Kirkland) was simply superb in the title role, her singing, acting and stage presence were of the highest quality and a joy to watch. The title song Don’t Cry For Me Argentina was very moving. The mistress (Catherine Willoughby) played her role of discarded lover in a very sympathetic way, her clothes being thrown off the balcony by Evita was a very poignant moment. Augustin Magaldi (Ben Dray) entertained the nightclub guests with his fine singing and guitar playing. The Military, not always in support with the actions of Evita, showed their contempt. The Chorus of peasants etc were very well drilled marching on and off the stage and especially during the sad ending of Evita’s funeral.

Steven Bean and his orchestra, out of sight, accompanied the cast and principals in a very sympathetic way.

Alison Chapman had a full time job on her hands with her large and very challenging job of drilling the cast which she accomplished very well.

Stage Manager Chris Morley and his large back stage crew, Lighting Designer Eddie King, Set Designers Keith Thomas and Chris Morley, along with many back up members, supported the cast and production.

This excellent production was very moving and well performed by all concerned.
