This was a very very good production of this classic musical. I found it very easy to follow, which I can’t say about previous productions of the show I have seen.
The principals were all well cast in their parts, particularly Sarah Hicks who was a superb Evita. She acted and sang the wonderful songs beautifully. Martin Craig was fine as Che he got over the complex story very well. John Beamer was a very convincing Peron and Karl Roe and Hannah Morris completed the principal line up very well.
I particularly enjoyed the big production ensembles, Buenos Aires. A New Argentina and The Money keeps Rolling In, were very well sung and the choreography for each one was excellent. Lots of movement and all very convincing. Well done to the Company.
I was slightly disappointed by the set, I felt it was very basic, and might have been enhanced to brighten it up. Having said that , I thought the placards and banners for A New Argentina were excellent.
Because the set was fairly drab, the show was very difficult to light particularly well, but on a brighter note I thought the sound was superb, which, very often isn’t the case in musical productions. The orchestra too were very well led by Joanna Jeffreys
On balance, an excellent offering from MAODS. I was visiting the production anyway, but to be asked to review the show was a bonus to me.
Well done to the company and all concerned for a very fine ‘Evita’, and thanks to everyone for their hospitality to me and my party.
