The President of NODA, who was at this performance, told the cast that youth were the future of amateur theatre in the country, and, judging by the performance this company gave, the future is in safe hands.
During a careers lesson at school, Jamie new tells his class he wants to be a drag Queen, his teacher tell him to be more realistic and become a fork lift driver. The story shows us the obstacles he is up against, but, in the end, he goes to school, supported by all his class mates in the dress and high heels and is a complete success.
Jamie New was played by Toby Foetu-Foster, who played the character so well and was hardly off stage. All credit to him for learning to walk in those high heels. His Best friend, Pritti Pasha, played by Zadie Beschi gave great support. Jamie’s mentor, Hugo, played by Oscar Ralley, also supported our lead character well. Loved Loco Chanelle. Two outstanding characters in this production were Jamie’s mom Margaret and her best friend Ray, played by Neve Matthews and Rat Clancy, they worked so well together.
Great support came from the remaining principals and the dancers and ensemble, with a cast of 44 there are too many to mention. They are worked so well as a team and looked like they were enjoying themselves.
This company made full use of the stage at the Town Hall. Having the orchestra at the rear of the stage made all the difference and the walkway down the centre of the auditorium was a great idea. Costumes looked good and the scenery and props were effective. The orchestra sounded good and the sound was at the right level so that every word could be heard.
You don’t know what you missed if you did not see this production. Congratulations to Georgia and the team.
I am already looking forward to your next production.
