This summer’s DOSYTCo concert: ‘Everybody’s talking about DOSYTCo’ involving such a large cast of talented and energetic youngsters on stage.
This year a change of production team giving a different look on the production: Ben Francis, Michael Stoker, Danielle Standing and Dominique Tonito went with a choice for the more ‘modern’ approach, non-stop activity and some big numbers to the backing tracks, a lot of talent on display, and, as Ben said, every child has a moment in the spotlight.
The full cast numbers were amazing with the vocals flat out and the energy into the choreography (who says teenage boys cannot dance), all knew their places in the groups, even the ‘tinies’. Liked the subdivision into the younger ‘team wicked’ and the teenage ‘footloose girls’ giving opportunities for the different numbers, plus the chance for solos, duets and smaller groupings for the differing moods and styles. Some excellent talent here being nurtured for the future.
The groupings of numbers into West End Today, Back in Time, Screen to Stage, Popular, Girl Power, and The Future gave the opportunity for favourite numbers both for full cast and the individuals. Ask anyone in the audience which number preferred and there will be a different answer from each, and all were given with great input energy. My personal choice might be Esme in Waitress, Team Wicked in Matilda, Oscar in Jersey Boys, Reuben in Dirty Dancing, Team Footloose in Copacabana and Legally Blonde, Esme and Reuben in Ghost, and the full cast in Sister Act, and that just first act. In second act the full cast and the boys (Adam, Louis, Zak, Ryan, Reuben) in Les Miserables, ClaraBelle and Rebecca with Miss Saigon, and from Phantom the full cast with Masquerade, loved Franky, Summer and Megan in Hairspray, and the full cast in Annie and with Hamilton. But others might choose a different selection of favourites and all good and delivered with passion.
Liked the colour scheme for the cast of turquoise with the black and white, and those coral jackets for the boys. And could hardly believe the numbers of lamps hung for a concert and the amazing lighting plot, dazzling.
Certainly an evening to showcase these youngsters and look to the future of theatre in the area, and shown by the audience reactio
