English for Pony Lovers is a one act play that was part of a double header by HD&OS. Both plays in their Double Act II evening have never been performed by an amateur society.
The opening was well choreographed to the same music as the first one act play, the scene of a bar was well thought out, using the cast from the first play creating the atmosphere in the bar.
The set was simple but effective. The bar at the back as the main element of the set was good. I did feel that Harry as the barman, unfortunately as funny as he was at times, it was distracting and took away from the dialogue.
Pay Lay played Elke, a German who is trying to learn English. I was impressed with Pat’s German accent. One of the hardest things with an accent is consistency, the accent never wavered. Not only was the accent good but Pat had definite light and shade and there was a lot of thought put into every line.
Dawn Travell played Lorna. She was very energetic, and her diction was very clear, and again a good accent! Her enthusiasm played well against Pat as Elke. I enjoyed seeing how her character changed as her back story unfolded, and it was lovely to see the character development.
This was a wonderful one act play, that contributed to a lovely evening. Thank you to HD&OS
