The Playhouse are always professional on their sets and this was no exception. Inside of an Abbey with stained glass windows and lots of props to make us feel we were inside a religious building. Well done to set designer Trevor Mumford and his crew. The story revolves around five nuns ..the acting mother is up for voting, to be Mother, she is a little radical and brings a robot on the scene ….the nuns are not happy. We go through all their reasons why ……..Six splendid actresses all line-perfect. Some I heardm some I didn’t - a little more projection needed in some places required. But what a cast.
These six ladies keep their audience engaged even in the long first half. Keeping their characters all the way to the end. These being Elizabeth Acting Mother (Amanda Hunt), Sister Constance (Sarah Hinchiffe), Sister Phillipa (Claire Madden), Sister Theresa (Alice Underdown), Mary the robot (Lucy Lawson), and child martyr (Susan Beer). In the program it said there were five Nuns from Ecuador. Did I miss something ?
Director Cheryl Marksford did a superb job on this play. Would I call it a comedy? No, a drama, and it certainly kept us engaged from start to finish. A great play as always from The Lindley Players. Congratulations to all involved.
