Once again Gang Show came up trumps with an evening of fun and first class entertainment. A cast of 240 young people put heart and soul into all their numbers providing us with some excellent musical numbers, precise choreography and amusing sketches. There were some especially good moments in the production. ‘What the Dickens’ was visually outstanding with it’s fabulous costumes and set and ‘Brothers in Arms ‘, a selection from Blood Brothers was vocally strong not only in the choral singing but showcasing some excellent male vocalists. ‘ Viva La Diva ‘ gave the female vocalists a chance to shine while ‘Rock’ allowed the cast to let off steam and they certainly did go for it. The younger members of the cast were exuberant and emphatic telling us what it would be like when they grew up and were delightful in their red and green outfits in ‘ Christmastown ‘The second half of the evening got off to a cracking start with ‘ Rhythm’ where again there was very good solo and ensemble work. It was very impressive to see the entire cast tap dancing their way through ‘I Got Rhythm ‘ with apparent ease. Well done to the choreographer in managing to achieve this! A dapper James Bond led the ‘ McBond’ number. Of course big production numbers were interspersed with some topical, witty and very clever sketches. AJ doesn’t miss a trick does he ? Alex Salmond came in for some ridicule particularly in the sketch ‘ Salmondella’ while reference to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Gold Medalists ( Andy Murray was very convincing !) was relevant and very funny indeed. This was a vivacious, sparkling evening demonstrating the camaraderie and obvious team work necessary to have an end product of such a high standard. Fabulous costumes, lots of scene changes and effective lighting require the commitment of a large team to support the obvious hard work and dedication of the production team in compiling and presenting such a show. All on stage and behind the scenes deserve the highest praise for the delivery of such an excellent show and making it possible for this huge cast to have the fun, joy and experience of performing in the King’s Theatre. The stirring finale seeing all these youngsters proudly wearing their uniforms brought this most enjoyable production to a fitting conclusion. Many congratulations to all
