Dundee Scout Gang Show never disappoint, and every year gets better and better.
This year was fantastic, the hard work and commitment that goes into putting on a production like this is obvious from the stage door, front of house to the stage and each and every person that is involved. The atmosphere backstage is one of family and many dedicated people come together to support the cast and make this show something to be very proud of.
Then there is the cast, an enthusiastic compliment of beavers, cubs, scouts and leaders all with a focus to entertain. And that they did in section after section of music, sketches and choreography.
Before the Interval we were treated to an opening of Movie Classics, The Cher Show with its very own Cher; even I wouldn’t attempt to walk in those heels! The Beavers who were fantastic, singing out their lyrics with confidence and much cuteness, and the choreography as the bands went into Battle was slick and well executed. Then we revisited Christmas with Christmas Jumpers and those favourite tunes that you never expect to hear in March. All of this intertwined with cubs creating havoc in the classroom and a very funny insight into the 12 days of Scout Camp.
The Whitehall was buzzing at the interval with this feel good first half with more still to come. Starting off with more than a nod to climate change the cast in their kilts reminded us in an impassioned medley to heal our world, followed by various costume changes as we played football, hit the Jungle, were transported to the era of Motown where I must mention the strong vocals before a very clever play on words and the all-white finale where we reminisced on the times of our lives and rode on the crest of a wave to a resounding appreciation from the audience.
Congratulations to the Wardrobe Team, Sound, Lighting and Stage Management, not to forget the backstage helpers, chaperones and crew. Well done to the talented Production Team Stacey McPherson-Kennedy, Brodie Mulholland, Aimee Brown, Paul Thomson and Musical Director Billy Muir.
An excellent programme made for a thoroughly enjoyable night. Thank you for the Invitation and for allowing me to be a part of the backstage team.
