Don’t Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon was performed by Longton Players in 2000 and they have decided to repeat this very funny farce. They certainly made the correct decision judging by the reaction of the audience to this fast and furious play.
Nick Briggs, Director and Rob Daniels, Production Manager had obviously worked tirelessly with the cast to give us an energetic, polished and well paced production.
The curtains opened to a well designed and solidly built set by John Tipping with appropriate furniture and properties. The charity EMMAEUS had donated furniture for the duration of the play and congratulations must go to Longton Players for supporting this local charity. John Tipping is also credited with very good lighting and sound. The experienced cast worked well together and their interaction and timing was first class. Diction and projection was good at all times, particularly when some of the dialogue needed to be delivered at breakneck speed for authenticity.
There were some very good performances from the cast tonight particularly from Jo Turner as Suzette, who showed excellent comic timing and physicality and Daniel Haresnape as Robert who gave a convincing, mature performance whilst coping with a very wordy script. The overall standard of this company improves year after year and I look forward to my next visit. Thank you for your very warm welcome to my wife and myself.
