Laughter constantly flows throughout Robin Hawdon’s adaptation of Marc Camoletti’s ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’.

Marc Camoletti is best known for his earlier play ‘Boeing Boeing’ which also features the younger versions of the two buddies from ‘Don’t Dress…’ – Bernard and Robert.

The most enjoyable aspects of the show are unquestionably the script and the charisma with which the cast delivers it. With an intentional detachment from reality, each of the six actors excels at creating laughs through the use of the dialogue and their own comedic abilities, not one of the players overtakes another, each of them create a perfect harmony working as an ensemble which, ultimately, ended up with a worthy team effort with director Chris Ainsworth at the helm.

The set - a converted barn come holiday home looked perfect, the amount of thought and detail was a credit to the overall presentation of the production, such as the actual phone ringing instead of using a sound effect and the clock on the wall (which most people in the audience would probably not even have noticed) being changed to signify that two hours had passed during the interval – it might not seem like much to some people but for me, it shows attention to detail which must not go un-noted.

Each member of the cast gelled with each other so well, it’s impossible to single anyone out as this was a true team effort as each performance complimented the other.

The entire play had been drilled to perfection to present a slick, confident and hilarious production.

The intimate space at PADOS House works well for small cast productions such as these.

This play has undoubtedly set the bar for 2013, there were no attempts or illusions of grandeur but due to the charisma of the cast it was a very enjoyable play indeed.

Faultless, congratulations PADOS!
