A full house for a cracking start to the New Year. A good open set of a French country house lounge and bar area. As always at Grange good props and furniture and, on this occasion, a very well stocked bar! The main character Bernard, played with a great sense of fun by Dexter Whitehead, immediately told the audience they were in for a fun night when he danced across the stage with a cocktail shaker to a tune by Hot Chocolate!! From that point on the mayhem began - almost a Whitehall farce. A wife (Rachel Waters), a Best Friend (Robert Newton) a Cook (Aimee Hall) and Girl-Friend (Zoe Maisey) and, almost at the end, the Cook's husband the Chef (Carl Horton). Misunderstandings and mix-ups, lovers trying to snatch passionate moments, enraged husbands until finally everything is sorted and they all lived happily ever after? Good performances from all the actors. There re-actions to all the misunderstandings were spot on and the timing first class. The play by French writer Marc Camoletti was interpreted in fine tradition for a show that ran for 7 years in London. The author himself would have been proud of this production.
