This was an intriguing title and I looked forward to this show with much anticipation. Two teenagers, Frances Lamburn and Martin Smith have written this comedy drama about a Game Show, “ Don’t Count Your Chickens”. Frances and Martin have used their experience from appearances in Pantomimes and Plays with the R.A.T.S. to pen an original, modern script which showcases the talents of youngsters from 9 to18 years, some of whom showed exceptional natural talent, which augurs well for their future. Congratulations to the two talented teenagers for not only writing the script but also for Directing, Producing and Choreographing the show. This piece was rehearsed over a period of six weeks during the Summer Holidays and it enabled the cast to gain valuable experience in all aspects of the stage and to improve their confidence.

The idea of a “Game Show” with an incompetent Director was a very inventive idea with much refreshing and imaginative content.

It was apparent that the audience, ranging from young children to more mature members, appreciated the commitment of the enthusiastic cast.

The evening opened to a very lively dance routine with great pace, which continued throughout the production and the entire cast worked well together, supporting each other and maintaining the energy and enthusiasm throughout.

Lewis Reed as the hapless T.V. Producer held the stage at all times and his two Presenter colleagues Connor Nutter and Daniel Riding showed great comic timing.

Paul Bell was outstanding as  Lawrence, in his crocheted gilet. He gave a mature “ tongue in cheek performance and he had a great rapport with his Right hand man and Left hand man conspirators, Sam Soper and Matthew Rimmer.   Emma Smith as Layla the Tea Lady was an excellent, believable character.

Staging, lighting and sound combined to make this a very enjoyable evening.

Thank you, once again, for making my wife and myself so welcome.
