The concert title ‘Do You Hear the People Sing’ allowed the group to perform a wide range of songs from musicals, films and from individual artists. A rousing rendition of ‘Another Op’nin’ Another Show’ was indeed a very apt ‘concert opener’ whilst incidentally show-casing their next production of - Kiss Me Kate. Chorus numbers included songs from Perchance to Dream, Glee, We Will Rock You and the Prince of Egypt. These were all splendidly delivered and staged as were the two medley sequences one from South Pacific and the other from Les Miserables, where the company were joined by the Juniors. Both of these were outstanding. The Ladies of the chorus exquisitely performed two numbers - Somewhere Only We Know by Keane and Raise Your Voice from Sister Act. Not to be outdone, the Gentleman delighted us with Randy Newman’s Dayton Ohio 1903. Throughout the evening were some excellent renditions by soloists, duettists and small groupings - what a wonderful array of talent was on show. We were treated to some magical performances from the Junior members of the company including, ‘Happy’, Pharrell Williams, ‘Electricity’, Billy Elliott, and a Mary Poppins Medley which definitely didn’t need a ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ it was just Super - califragilisticexpialidocious! The solo singers involved in these numbers were truly amazing - surely to be stars in the future. A small 5-piece band gave excellent support and together with imaginative back projections and lighting added to make the evening thoroughly enjoyable. I certainly ‘Did Hear the People Sing’ at this performance and how superbly they all, ‘did sing’! Congratulations must go to the whole production team, to all the performers and to everyone else involved.
