Forget London’s West End, Dundee’s West End was the place to be! Thomson-Leng Musical Society presented a revue show, which was so much more than your typical cabaret and stormed the Whitehall Theatre displaying some of the finest talent Dundee has to offer. This dazzling group of children and adults put their all into the show to ensure it is an enjoyable experience for their audience. It is safe to say that some of the performances would not be out of place on a professional stage. From the younger cast members, the audience was treated to excerpts from Godspell, and a new musical version of Matilda. It was so refreshing to witness the confidence and happiness that oozed from the children when they performed. The sound which echoed throughout the theatre when the entire cast sang in unison was enough to blow the roof off of the theatre. The harmonies were tight and the dancing energetic – thanks to choreographer Jenni Main, The show included many excerpts from London West End productions and the band, under the direction of the talented Billy Muir, brought forth magical musical moments. Special mention goes to Raymond Wood for his emotional performance of ‘One Song Glory’, and Fiona McRobbie with a superb performance of ‘Fine Fine Line’. Several younger members also deserve praise - Ruth Mckelvie, Kelsie Boland and Ava Hickey - that proved that the future of Dundee musical theatre is in safe hands.
