The Pepperpot Players - DIY
Following last year’s successful World Premier production of ‘Continental Quilt’ the author Joan Greening once again entrusted this excellent Company to present a new World Premier production of this her new play. Joan and her husband John were in the audience on the last night and were delighted with another superb performance. The idea for the play came to Joan after a horrific ordeal with an Irish decorator which almost gave them a nervous breakdown and whilst this performance was full of humour it must have been a nightmare in real time. The decorator in the play Jim O’Flaherty (Tim Wilson) sustained his Irish accent superbly throughout the production and his blarney and charm continually extricated him from difficult situations. All of the Principal's were well cast with Christine Kislak, (Mags Carter) and Kendra Yates, (Pat Carter) having the meatiest other roles. Kendra was outstanding as the slightly slow and intellectually challenged adopted daughter of Mags. The widowed next door neighbour Penny Sant, (Phyllis Moore),a silly woman who has ‘a thing’ for Jim, Sian Robinson (Jan Carter) Mag’s daughter, a flirty student, Karen Ashcroft (Rosie Wood) a common, tarty woman who also admires Jim and Marcus Delorenzo, (Brian O’Flaherty),Jim’s son was the only other male in the cast. Yeah he was, but he obviously enjoyed the role. Barbara Hinton (Constance Carter) Mag’s cousin and self styled mature dragon gave a lovely cameo performance. If the author’s decorator was anything like this Jim I’m surprised she survived the experience. The superb “in house” built set and backstage and front of house personnel all contributed to a first class production.
