It was good to see my first production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Junior) – a few cuts from the original, but very much the same popular show. Staged simply, the show ran well. The backing tracks were effective and the overall sound balance was excellent. Alan Sunter handled the role of Prince/Beast effortlessly, his stoop and voice helped create a most believable characterisation. Caitlin Sinclair was lovely as Belle and sang beautifully. Her voice looks and reactions were all perfect. Alasdair Robertson created a strong Gaston and sidekick Jamie Laing as Lefou had an excellent sense of timing. Strong performances from Paul Sinclair as Lumière, Kirsty Niven as Madame de la Grande Bouche, Ailidh McCall as Cogsworth and Caitlin Murphy as Mrs Potts. Great accent and style from Elie Spence as Babette. Chorus work was good, as was the chorus singing. High point for me was the ‘Human Again’ numbers where the harmonies were excellent. A show well done!
