This was a very good production from the younger members of WADAMS, and was the first production to be performed in the towns newly refurbished Carnegie Theatre.

A number of the famous characters were introduced to us, Alice, the White Rabbit, who was always late, the Cheshire Cats, yes plural!, the Tweedle Twins, Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter.

It’s difficult to maintain the story thread in these abridged , children’s versions, but the kids performed their songs and dance routines very well, and the show was over all too quickly.

Special mention must go to Sarah Deans, as Alice, who was on stage for almost the entire production, and Jody Rafferty, as a brilliant White Rabbit. All the other characters were well played, and the show was a very colourful musical romp.

The scenery, some hired, and some made by the Society, worked very well, and the costumes, made by the wardrobe committee, and make up were excellent.

Lighting was good, and the black light show, in particular. Occasionally I had difficulty hearing the script, especially when the characters were playing on the stage aprons. The music, pre recorded, was run by MD Bob Daglish, making his debut with the Society, and it was clear he had worked the kids hard rehearsing the big production numbers.

A very enjoyable evening with WADAMS, and once again their hospitality is exemplary.
