A large cast with a very good balance of girls and boys that was impressive in this lively show dating back to the 70’s with many foot tapping numbers.

With twenty- five musical numbers it is a meaty production to take on with plenty of songs to reminisce on and some good singing came over supported by an excellent band and MD under the direction of Nik Graham.

Good performances in particular from Alex Hooker as Lady Marmalade, Simon Hipkins as an extremely athletic Nick Diablo and three pairings with Tia-Diana Taylor & Sam Swift,Sophie Read & Alex Lockert,& Jodie Ellis & James Clark in the principal roles who all worked well together.James Hooker as Duke also fitted well into his character.

I did find some of the solo numbers rather static and lacking in movement and expression within the characters, although all were well sung. Perhaps to move around rather than standing in one spot with more expressive movements would have added to rather more depth to the songs? This all comes with experience and confidence after performing in other shows.

It is always important to convey to the audience that the performer really feels what they are singing about, and makes the most of the words.

The choreography was good. Well done to some of the cast members involved in the setting of dance numbers. A great idea  encouraging potential choreographers in the future productions.

The costumes generally were well in the period complete with flared trousers and platform shoes, and were very colorful and together with good lighting and set added to a very bright feel to the production.

It was evident that a lot of hard work had gone into a show that is quite demanding in many aspects, and due credit to Chris for her hard work on the production.

It was nice to see several new faces on stage that was encouraging, and I hope that I see all these young people in many shows to come.

I look forward to your next production and will be very interested in the choice. I feel you give a wide range of productions for the audience’s enjoyment and it is good to give the cast many different genres of production to try out.
