Based on the 1988 MGM film, this stylish sophisticated farce takes place on the French Riviera.

Joe Bromfield as the suarve well connected confidence trickster Lawrence Jameson, deployed all of his wiles to accomplish his goal, very ably aided and abetted by local Chief of Police, Andre Thibault - Elliot Bishton; the goal being to relieve wealthy socialites of their money and jewelllery.

Dan Robb as his younger louche rival Freddy Benson was good fun, seizing whatever opportunity to fleece the unsuspecting, very much a likeable rogue.

Stephanie Leeson as their mutual competitve prey, or so they think, Christie Colgate; gave us glamour, and a cheeky sense of fun.

Heiresses, Muriel Eubanks and Jolene Oakes, played Becky Winfield and Chloe Lang respectively also added to the fun and mayhem of the show.

The different dynamcis between the main charcters worked really well, just the right side of not being over the top and as believable as they could be in a farce. All interacted well in character, had humorous dialogue, delivered with style and panache.

They were all very ably supported by their fellow cast members all of whom made for interesting tableaux in the big cast numbers.

Director Tom Brassington, used the theatre well, scenes worked on all the levels, full use of the auditorium equally so with Mellow Dramatics enthusiastic talented cast, well directed.

Costumes a mix of hired and owned were spot on. Elegant, classy and well thought out. I was impressed with the double staircase set, which worked particularly well, it gave the required gravitas of opulence and also the additional level to work.

It also housed the orchestra under the baton of MD Sara Kimber. The swing jazz numbers really helped envoke a feeling of the Mediterainian elite, they also used music extremely well to cover some slickly changed scenes as well.

Choreographer Andrea Osbourne worked her cast hard, so they told me, the dancers easily shone, the non dancers worked their collective bootees.

Sound, was good, well balanced mix. If I was to be extra picky, there was the odd late mic fade-in/left on, incident, probably just a first night issue, equally so with the lighting and projection which was subtle.

It was really nice to meet the Director, Cast, Choreographer and MD after the show, we were well looked after and made to feel welcome, thank you.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels – Sophisticated, Sexy, lively, clever, cheeky, feel good show
