It is difficult knowing where to start reviewing the excellent production of this newly released show. The production team must be delighted with the final outcome and it is a pity that more people weren’t in the audience to appreciate it.
The plot requires real teamwork from the principals and it was certainly there in abundance with Steve Thornhill (Lawrence) and Jamie Jones (Freddy) inspired choices for the two con men. Francesca Breeze (Christine) extracted every nuance possible from the character and these three together with Brian Washington (Andre) worked together very well to keep the story rolling along at a good pace. They were well supported by Helen Cartwright (Muriel) and Sarah Diamond (Jolene). The singing by all six was first class whether it was in solos, duets or ensembles. The chorus singing was strong and confident as was the dancing of Lauren Barry’s choreography.
There was a very good balanced sound from the orchestra under Ian Room’s direction and the whole was supported by good costumes and a new impressive set.
A very good night’s entertainment. Well done everyone involved!
