Ding Dong

This was an hilarious production of infidelity and mistaken identity from a team of very talented performers. There wasn’t a weak link in the six strong cast, a very strong company indeed.

Jason Munn, playing Bernard Marcellin was on stage for virtually the whole performance. He was quite incredible. His wife Jacqueline was well played by Andrea Baugh, and the crux of the plot is her affair with Robert Regnier, again very well played by Pauley Heron. Bernard sets out to balance the arrangement by threatening Robert with death, unless he will agree to let Bernard sleep with his wife Juliette, to which he eventually agrees.

The Regniers are invited by the Marcellins for dinner, and Robert turns up with Barbara, very very well played by Sarah Waters, posing as Robert’s wife Juliette. During these comings and goings we are also introduced to Marie Louise, the Marcellin’s chief cook and bottle washer, again very well played by Debbie Armstrong. The final character to appear is Robert’s real wife Juliette, played very convincingly by club newcomer Rachael Chung.

The audience were treated to many comical situations during the performance, and there were some very visually explicit sexual suggestions during the play. All were very funny and suited the goings on. Bernard is attracted to the would be wife and the real wife. The real wife is attracted to Bernard as is the maid Sarah Louise. There was so much going on, it was difficult at times to keep up. I can’t say they all lived happily ever after, but the company certainly had a lot of fun trying to keep each other happy. A very fine performance indeed from a very strong cast.

The one set  was well designed by Sarah Waters and members, and the technical team did a very good job. All in all a very good evenings entertainment from this very talented drama club, in their delightful little theatre on West Walls.
