This society has to be one of the few who can pull off a show such as Die Fledermaus and looking at the programme and the accidents and hospitalisations they very nearly didn’t!
The direction, both artistic and musical was expertly done by both Anita and Harry and bearing in mind all the losses of cast along route I would never have known.
The script is very funny and tells a tale of marital difficulties and subterfuge but the music is so beautiful with gorgeous waltzes and polkas along the score. The 19 piece Orchestra sounded gorgeous and so full of depth with Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion.
There were 3 acts and therefore 3 changes of set all of which looked great. The props and costumes were wonderful and in keeping with the time of the piece.
Rosalinda was played by Mirriam Lawton who sounded fabulous and certainly looked the part with some stunning gowns. Gabriel her husband was beautifully played by Brent Andrews who had the added facet to his character of being a philanderer.
Alison Starrs put in a lovely performance as Prince Orlofsky with lovely vocals. Alan Price put in a very funny cameo performance in Act 3 of Frosch the second in command at the prison. Playing drunk and making it look real is a always difficult but this was wonderfully funny.
Doctor Falke , the “Bat” of the story was very well played by George Hulbert with fantastic vocals which had both power and passion intertwined. Gerard Marsden playing Alfred was very funny in his pursuit of Rosalinda
Adele was played by Deborah Thew who has a wonderful stage presence and a gorgeous voice. Her part was cheeky and funny both qualities which shone in her performance. I loved “The Laughing Song” and the 3 part “How Sad we Are” with Mirriam and Brent.
All the supporting actors and ensemble filled their roles well and when people are enjoying themselves this exudes to the audience as it did in this production. Well done to everyone involved. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
