Eye catching comic moments in the opening scene of this wonderful operetta immediately captured the audiences’ attention as the various ranks of the household staff, clearly depicted by their costume and tasks, carried out their duties with purpose. They maintained their individual roles convincingly during the beautifully played overture. Scenery was impressive and the costumes were superb. In the second act there was an abundance of humour, excellent pace and added entertainment in the form of a delightful ballet performed for the guests at Orlofsky’s party. Singing was, as always with this group, exceptionally good from both the soloists and the company. Star performances were from Giselle Thorne (Adele), Jane Greenshields (Rosalinda), Anne Niven (Prince Orlofsky) Rod Parsons (Dr Falke) and Barry Audsley (Alfred), who along with the support of the other talented members of the company made this a first rate production. Direction was very good indeed with many added touches which made this comic operetta especially enjoyable.
