Instead of their usual November concert, Kentish Opera gave us ‘Dido and Aeneas’ written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, with a libretto by Nathan Tate.
As per usual they gave us Opera perfection at the Stag Theatre, even the minimal staging of just a chair at times teamed with mood lighting by Sam Gilham.gave the stage depth…perfect. Direction, Musical Direction and costume design were once again in very capable hands of Terry John Bates, Robyn Sevastos and Carol Stevenson’s glorious costumes. Kentish Opera were on top form in this very short piece of Opera. Soloists were Rebecca Hooper, Clair Filer, Robert Garland, Katy Bingham-Best, Pauline Flanagan, and special praise must go out to Leora Molnar a young 16-year-old taking on the role of Anna, Dido's sister. Leora at such a young age shone. Kentish Opera’s powerful chorus backed this performance with excellent simple choreography. This short Opera gave your audience a very pleasurable evening.
