~~This was traditional pantomime but with a few twists, not least the “entertainment”, which added to the interest. It was well directed by Deborah and also well prepared with a large cast to accommodate on the limited facilities available. There was a varied selection of music which was nicely sung. On stage we had a good mixture of experience and youth led by Malcolm Price, an excellent dame, who ensured the audience participation throughout. Lucy Greaves was an ideal principal boy and combined well with Tracey Priest, another good performance. A slightly unusual but delightful performance from Elizabeth English a very talented cat, and she had a smile throughout!  Zena Robinson and Adam Betts, Captain Cuttlefish and Idle Jack, made the most of the many comic moments, working well with the audience, while Simon Goodson made a good Alderman Fitzwarren. Andrew Robinson was certainly an evil character as King Rat leaving us in no doubt as to his intensions.
The chorus provided full backing throughout as did the dancers aided by nice choreography. The costumes and set were fine as was the lighting and special effects, while the backstage work was efficient, keeping the show rolling all the time. The “entertainment” replaced the usual sing song with a version of “If I were not upon the stage” and it was very entertaining. It was great to see so many of the “senior” members taking part, the younger members will surely learn from their experience. Well done, it was good to see a good audience enjoying themselves.
