This was a traditional family pantomime that the audience really appreciated. First I must congratulate the wardrobe team as the costumes were colourful and first rate. The set was very good and effective; the choreography was splendid for both older and younger dancers who had smiles on their faces all the way. The songs were well chosen and enjoyable to listen to, with the band on the side of the stage that was not intrusive.
Sandy Worcester as Fairy Twinkle sparkled in her role and came across well, her opposite number King Rat played by Tony Christopher gave all he’d got to be nasty and succeeded! Idle Jack (Joel Foxon) played the “fool” very well indeed, and the audience quickly warmed to him. Dick Whittington (Annette Driver) made an excellent principle boy. Thomas the cat (Marcus Carson) made some lovely meow sounds, however needed more cat- like moves, but none the less did well. Sarah the cook (Dame) (Mark Blaber) had some wonderful costumes and used them to the full, along with some great wigs. The shop scene needed a little more pace in order for the jokes to have their full impact, also more smiles from Sarah would have been great. Alice Fitzwarren (Katherine Lister) gave a good performance, as did Alderman Fitzwarren (Les Hunt). Marlene Marlin (Hilary Watkins- Field) did a splendid “ooh aarrr ”as the wife of Spike Marlin (Nick Lawrence) who, when he appeared, commanded the stage and with his portrayal, and nearly stole the show!
Sheik Anvac (Brian Toye) gave a super performance as only he can do. Really funny and creative. Yasmin, his daughter (Sophie Christenson on the night I went) played the role sympathetically and looked great. Steve Driver as Mustapha did very well. Over all. A great evening in true panto tradition just needed a little more pace, but the Blackmore Players never disappoint.
Congratulations to all concerned.
