Dick Whittington

This pantomime production from WADAMS was very enjoyable and entertaining. I felt the performers deserved a much bigger audience on the night I was there, after all the obvious hard work they had put in during their months of rehearsal.

All the leading performers played their parts well. Eric Finlay, as always was an outstanding Dame, I particularly enjoyed his patter song, naming almost all the towns and villages in Cumbria, very cleverly done. It’s a pity his wife, sitting beside me, said he had forgotten his words for the very first time, otherwise I would never have known!!!!!. Sarah Deans was a very good Dick Whittington, and she was well supported by Elizabeth Corless, as Alice and Heather Collingwood as Fairy Bowbells. Shirley McLean was a very good ‘knockabout’ playing Idle Jack, actually she wasn’t very idle at all and worked very hard to keep the audience entertained. Jack Pick was an excellent villain, playing King Rat. His stage presence and evil demeanour was excellent. Other minor parts were all well played, in fact there wasn’t a weak link in the team. All the solos and choruses were well sang, and the choreographed routines were well performed . Well done to the full company.

The video wall set was excellent, and congratulations to the team who designed the settings, they were all appropriate to the specific scenes being played. The costumes all suited the scenes being played and the particular situations. The sound tracks were excellent, well done to MD Mark. Lighting and sound were good, congratulations to unsung heroes, Oliver and Gareth, and any stage props needed were well worked by the stage crew.

On balance this was an all round excellent production, and my congratulations to everyone involved, a very enjoyable evening was had. As always the society hospitality was second to none, on behalf of Phyllis and myself, a very big thank you  to those who looked after .
