Spotlight has an abundance of talent and this shows in this current production, 'Dick Whittington'.

William Heath led the company well in the leading role of Dick Whittington who goes to London to seek his fortune.  On his way he meets a talking cat, 'Chris' (Kimberley Beckett) who guides him through his quest.  He meets 'King Rat' who hates everyone including Dick.  He was played by Ben Carr in the style of Alan Carr which worked well, and how the audience on the opening night booed him. Ben and Charlotte Ham as 'Mrs. Rat' made a good pair as did Dick and Alice played by Maddie Beebee.  Comedy came from Idle Jack (Matthew Windsor and Eileen the cook (Lewis Kent).  I also enjoyed the cameo role of Mary played by Natasha Pearce who led the audience in some community singing.  In fact the whole society worked as a team and it showed. During one of the songs Alderman Fitzwarren, Ben Walker, had the opportunity of playing his saxophone on stage.  It was good that he was given the chance to do this.

The projections used at the back of the stage were most effective and the costumes were outstanding with all credit to the costume team.

As I have mentioned this was opening night and there were some problems with the sound and the level of the band but this did not deter the members from putting on a first rate production.  This was a new venue for Spotlight and it worked well for the society.  The directors and choreographers did a great job with this well written script.
