Panto season is still going strong in Wombwell, as Wombwell and District Amateur Operatic Society took to the stage with this years family fun panto, Dick Turpin Rides Again. This is a first for me, as I've never seen a panto version of Dick Turpin and this production certainly did not disappoint.  The sets were bright and colourful and I must mention the beautiful costumes, especially the stunning red finale. This was a feast for the eyes, congratulations to the wardrobe team.

As well as directing, Chris Wakeford played our dame, Doris Dolittle, and once again proved what a first rate dame he is. As soon as he appeared the audience cheered and we were putty in his hand. I would recommend any wannabe dames of the future to go and watch Chris. A masterclass, Josephine Owen, another audience favourite provided plenty of laughs as she fooled around as Doris's son, Simon.

Kimberley Cooper, played our hero, Dick, and looked every inch  the principal boy we know and love. Together  with Sally Bembridge as his love interest Maggie Micklegate, they treated us some fine vocals. Nadine Young and Ruby Needham were a great team as Bess, Dick's horse. The panto horse is a difficult part to portray in any panto, but especially in this one  as Bess gave us all a stylish tap dance! It was nice to see younger members of the company playing leading roles, and holding their own amongst a stage full of experienced performers. Lucy Cooper and Scott Jessop were an entertaining team as Hand and Cuff, and I for one can't wait to see what these talented youngsters do in the future. Sue Gent and Keira Hardy entertained us the Squires bailiffs, Knuckle and Duster. Sue has perfected these kind of roles over many years and is a firm audience favourite in Wombwell.
The major principals were well supported by Adele Murray as Psychic Sally, David Tasker as Squire Grabbit and Andy Harris as Judge Mental. The chorus were engaging and it appeared they all on stage were having a great time,

Thank you all for your kind hospitality.
