Due to family circumstances, I was not able to attend Dial M for Murder at the last minute, but in my absence Nick Browne had the pleasure of attending a performance and noted the following:

A solid and enjoyable performance from the M.A.D team with a well-paced and engaging take on this classic thriller.

Dial M for Murder tells the story of Tony Wendice, a former tennis pro who plots to have his wife Sheila murdered after discovering her affair with crime writer Max Halliday. When the plan goes awry and the would-be killer ends up dead, Tony attempts to frame Sheila for murder instead. What follows is a tense game of deception, as Inspector Hubbard begins to unravel the truth behind Tony’s carefully crafted scheme.

Ivy Sutherland brought a cool and confident edge to Tony – calm, calculated, and convincingly manipulative throughout.

Ann Sutherland gave a strong emotional performance as Sheila, capturing both vulnerability and strength as her situation worsened.

Euan Smith was a great fit for Max Halliday – natural delivery, good energy, and strong connection with the rest of the cast.

Carolyn Cameron as Lesgate was clear and confident, offering a nuanced performance that transitioned from confident criminal to desperate conspirator.

Steven Armstrong played Inspector Hubbard with a calm authority and a touch of dry humour that worked really well.

Overall the performance delivered strong character work across the board with clear storytelling.

The pacing was spot-on – scenes moved well and the tension was maintained throughout.

Set and props were simple but effective – created the right atmosphere without overcomplicating things.

The staging was elegant and functional, with simple lighting and blocking. Well-considered costume choices completed the atmosphere of 1950s London.

Overall, a confident and well-rehearsed production with good chemistry between cast members and clear direction. M.A.D should be proud of a job well done.
