This production ensured that the audience was on the edge of their seats throughout and by the end we weren’t sure which members of the cast were still alive. Fortunately, there were plenty of humorous moments throughout to break the tension. This was not only due to the quality of the writing but also to the imagination and pace of the direction.

The whole of the play took place on one impressive set so congratulations to all involved in its design and build.

There was a very strong performance from Alan Lowe (Sidney Bruhl) and he was well matched by Dave Brown (Clifford Anderson) with their interactions made it very difficult to work out who was telling the truth. Jill Simkin (Myra Bruhl) didn’t survive for very long before she became the first victim of the plot hatched by Sidney and Clifford. However, she certainly made her presence felt particularly with some impressive discourse with Sidney. There was plenty of humour most of it centred around Joanne James as the nosey neighbour with extrasensory perception, Helga Tendorp. She predicted many of the happenings but confused the details so the audience didn’t really believe her. This was an excellent portrayal as we didn’t take her seriously until the end of the play. Roger Shepherd (Porter Milgrim) kept calling to advise Sydney, as his lawyer, about aspects of Myra’s will and other matters related to the estate. This was a clever piece of storytelling and an important part of the twists and turns in the plot. We were left, at the end, by Porter and Helga plotting together but who survives is any body’s guess.

Well done to everyone involved in providing such an excellent evening’s entertainment!
