Well this Daisy certainly pulled it off. The play is set in Grangewood, a private school for girls in 1927, and traces the experience of Daisy Meredith, the first scholarship pupil to join the school.
A superb confident portrayal of Daisy by Emily Johnston was the highlight of this production. Word perfect, her character maintained faultlessly. She was given an ideal foil by Karen Jones as her best chum Alice, in yet another classy performance. Angela Swift as Sybil, and Yvonne Baird as Monica, were sublime as the two upperclass girls with their underhand activities and snide remarks designed to undermine Daisy. Sally Tickner- Mellor played her role well as the Head Girl, Clare Beaumont. The whole cast executed their student roles with much detailed characterisation and commendable stage presence. Miss Gibson, the Head-Mistress, played by Regina Repton was a fine example, her clear diction and projection most admirable.
The set was cleverly designed, and the costumes appropriate to the period. With this production not only Daisy, but the entire cast pulled it off.
