A really interesting play, with a twist at the very end of Act 3, was the choice from Bocking Theatre Club and it was an excellent production, which just kept getting more intriguing as the play progressed.
The play in three acts with two scenes in each act took place on the stage of a small theatre at the end of a pier.
The eight actors in this production moved the action along at a good pace and from the younger members of the cast through to more seasomed players all gave creditable performances.
Jean Baker as Sylvia was excellent, trading her affections between Alex and her husband Martin and gave a strong sense of "wanting her cake and eating it” into the bargain.
Alex Ings as the boy friend Alex in the trilogy did well in the part, again toying with two ladies in his life. Alex played an important role in the production.
Jan Peaston as Moppet has such a great relaxed manner on stage and draws the audience in with her well paced dialogue. I enjoyed this character very much.
Marin Robinson playing Martin, Sylvia’s husband, was suitably a rather boring man until he was made aware of the affair with his wife and Alex and when things started to go wrong took control of the situation which impressed his wife and turned events around,
John Ellson as Harry the caretaker was actually a very important character in the plot and I did have my suspicions about his involvement in a very complicated story from the start.
The parts of Linda, Ginny & Sandra played by Rachael Rulton, Steph Felton and Molly Sherman, all the younger members of the cast fitted well into their respective parts and added much to the story line.
The plot is far too complicated to explain but the play has more than a few surprises and John Dearsley in his debut as Director took care to highlight touches here and there which were clever and added to the enjoyment and feel of the production.
I hope that John has the chance to direct again with the company.
It was good to meet up with friends here again and thank you for your warm welcome.
A great display of seaside goodies together with the Pier Café serving drinks and donuts all added to the theme of the production and was great fun in the hall.
Well done to you all for a really enjoyable show.
