Curtain Up on Murder

This was an excellent play choice for the Theats to perform … A gripping thriller by Bettine Manktelow. The play is set on a stage where an amateur theatre company are rehearsing their latest play … one by one the characters are bumped off! I spent the entire evening trying to work out who did it and was totally surprised at the ending … Well done Theats you had me completely fooled!

This was Luke Campbell Simcoe’s first time directing a play and he did an excellent job with the production. The play was well-staged and had a very good pace throughout. Well done Luke!

The eight actors were all well-cast in their roles and there were some very good characterisation from them all.

Susan Hackett as Sylvia gave a very confident performance with lots of poise. Martin Brown in the role of Alex was very good; a little more facial expression and variety of intonation would enhance your performance even more. Adele Logue as Moppet brought lots of comedy to her role with some fine character acting. A very self-assured performance came from Steve Atterbury - I loved the very tender scene in act 2 between his character and Moppet. Francesca Chaisson as Ginny gave a promising performance. Leona Sontag had lots of confidence in her role as Sandra and Jennie Coleman also gave a very polished performance as Linda. David Cooke as Harry gave a performance which I enjoyed very much he had a well-sustained accent and brought lots of comedy to his role. Very well done to you all!

The set was excellent and the scenery and props were managed very well throughout the production. The costumes were good and in keeping with the period. Occasionally the lighting could have been a bit better, but on the whole was good. The visual and sound effects were excellent.

Thank you Theats, this was a very well-staged and entertaining production.
