I was delighted to be able to attend South Moor MTG’s concert, it’s been over a year since they have been able to put on a staged production due to performance venue issues but what a venue they found, the recently refurbished “Roxy” at Leadgate is a beautiful venue and a perfect location for this production.

With just 16 members taking part, the cast were kept very busy. The choreography and staging ensured that we were constantly looking at different pictures which kept the show interesting to watch and the changes in costume style and colours complimented each section. The sections of the show were linked together with a witty voice over from Gareth Lilly setting the scene and keeping the mood lighthearted. Lighting in a show like this is so important as we don’t have the privilege of scenery and this plot really enhanced the production and created some lovely moments.

The program included a broad spectrum of different styles and genres and it flowed well, there were no awkward pauses or gaps and the evening flew over. We had classic musical theatre, modern musical theatre as well as some American songbook hits and classic pop numbers. Everyone involved contributed to the success of the evening, there was a good mix of solos, duets, group numbers as well as full company numbers giving everyone their opportunity to shine. I can’t list every song (there were 33 of them) or every performer but there were some numbers which were my personal favourites on the night; “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” Michael, “She Used to be Mine” Kirsty, “For Good” Raigan and Erin, “You’re the Top” Andrew and Lindsay, “Anthem” Ian, “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid” Ian, Andrew, Michael and Jim and the full company renditions of  “Seasons of Love” and “Sing, Sing, Sing” which had some lovely harmonies.

Well done Joan, Andrew and everyone involved, your audience went away thoroughly entertained and I look forward to hearing what your next venture will be.
