“Crazy for You”, with sixteen scene changes, was by no means an easy show to stage, but with its well thought out set, it flowed with ease. There was plenty of chorus involvement in both singing and dancing, and they did justice to the fabulous music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin. The costumes throughout were excellent for both chorus and principals, and gave the show a bright and vibrant feel.
The principals were well cast, and gave some really good performances. Amy Bagnall was very good as Polly Baker with her lovely singing voice and good acting, while Lawrence Chadwick, as Bobby Child, sailed through this demanding vocal role and created a great duplicate character of Zangler. Taking the part of Bobby’s girlfriend was Laura Dollimore, as Irene Roth. She was excellent, and gave a confident and professional performance. I really liked Keith Hewison’s hill-billy character of Polly’s father, Everett Baker, and Mike Beckford’s super portrayal of impresario Bela Zangler. Much of the humour came from Jim Cowper, as Eugene Fodor, and Carol Bannerman as his sister Patricia. They gave great performances as the eccentric adventurers and the audience loved them.
Congratulations to cast, crew and production team on a job very well done.
