Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company – Copacabana

Every now and again a show which I have never previously been fond of surprises me and this production certainly did. From the very beginning it burst into life with singing and choreography of high standard setting the audience toe tapping quietly in their seats and with big smiles on their faces (I looked). The fifteen principals and the ladies and men’s chorus filled the stage with dance routines choreographed superbly by Wendy Richards and Molly Parmenter - and there were no left feet in sight. Stephen (Julian Richards) and Samantha (Katherine Painter) were excellent in the leading roles. Both have fine voices and stage presence and I very much enjoyed their performances. All the principals were excellent with Sam Silver (Chris Paine), Georgie Taylor (Gladys Murphy), Conchita Alvarez (Zoe Darks)  played their roles so well with quality acting, singing and dancing in their performances. Dave Clarke (Rico Castelli) a villainous, vicious Italian gangster, frightened me never mind Conchita. Every aspect of the production was polished and full of humour and the whole performance was extremely enjoyable. The Director Doug Forrester and Musical Director Barry Hipkiss plus the lighting and backstage crew all contributed to the quality of the show. Wardrobe, particularly the Copacabana dancers costumes, and their dance routines were superb. The whole evening was a joy.
