This was my first visit to the “Comrie Concert” because I was the “subbie” for RR Ron Stewart who was enjoying a pleasant holiday break. The show named, because it is held in the Carnoustie Society’s Clubrooms, was performed on a raised dais in a theatre set-up on the rehearsal floor. It contained a non-stop variety of song and dance, assembled by a production team, much too large to mention – (hence the reason there are no production names mentioned) – but, be assured, these unnamed people put together a show that was wide and varied and they deserve much thanks. To get the audience in the mood, the show began with a great Abba opening and then followed a disco section, plus other pleasant musical interludes. We were also treated to eight energetic young members of the Junior Chorus who took us to a frozen land far away and, later, returned to entertain with a musical Seuss section aided by company members adding their voices to the proceedings! Mention also for the soloists and duet singers who performed songs from “Les Miserables”, “Superstar”, plus other well known shows. And we must not forget that energetic dance troupe – the society’s dancers who, in such a limited space, performed miracles with their Scottish, and modern dance routines! Comedy and laughs came in the form of a humorous sketch having a gentle “poke “ at the local Carnoustie Health Centre, which couldn’t possibly be true . . . or was it! All too soon it was “The Rhythm Of Life” finale and everything came to an end, Carnoustie, it was a pleasure to be in your company and I enjoyed myself immensely.
