Last night I had the pleasure of attending The Great Horton Theatre Company Summer concert “Come to the Cabaret, once again musically directed by Rosie Walsh who did a fine job. This year John Mason, the usual compere stood down and in his place were Nora Walker, Audrey ‘Keefe and Rita Schofield who led us through the evening in fine form. This year was their 120-year anniversary, and we were treated to a history of the society by Nora Walker their President. Such a wonderful story to be able to tell.
The show opened with a rousing Cabaret from the show of the same name and we heard many of the songs that the society had sung over the last 120 years in their past shows. The Colours of my Life from Barnum, Singing in the Rain and I Don’t Know How to Love Him plus many more each one having its one tale and special meaning for the society. We also heard new numbers such as a collection from Les Mis, Mama Mia, and a flute solo from the MD.
Special mentions to Rhya Newell who sang “Opportunity” from Annie, Bob Crackles singing “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” from Oklahoma and also Geraldine Kilduff who sang “Happy Talk” from South Pacific.
Thank you for a lovely evening and wonderful memories of my own that I took away with me.
