Lilies on the Land
Shinfield Players Theatre, SPT
Clue the play uses the character and plot conventions of its Cluedo game origins to produce a theatrical experience which is fun for both audience and performers alike. However it does represent an uneasy mix of murder mystery and farce, along with references to the Red Scare and McCarthyism the significance of which was possibly lost on a British audience under a certain age. This strange mix was reflected in its presentation, beginning with an Agatha Christie-esque first act peppered with comic one liners leading into a much more farcical second act when performers were able to really get into their stride.
