What a great, fun and entertaining evening by Maltby Minors.  The clever format and very appropriate venue worked really well and the young people along with their guests gave enjoyable performances.

Following a super Blues Brothers opening there were a number of ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ performances and to ensure that as many of the children and young people as possible could be involved some performers were seen in duplicate or triplicate – who would ever complain about being in the presence of three Elton Johns or three Amy Winehouses?  There was high energy in all of the acts which also included Neil Diamond, Six and The Beatles.  Sadly Glen Miller was ‘lost in the mist’, but the show allowed lots of young people to perform and to be included.  It was brilliant to see such an inclusive approach and to recognise that the group had been prepared to work together to carry off the show.

There were also a couple of variety acts – a very, very cleverly produced ‘Lyrics’ routine and ‘Matthew the Mentalist’ was also hugely entertaining.  Having taken a ‘willing victim’ from the audience this young man performed with great confidence and super timing.  The show also gave an opportunity to a number of ‘former’ Minors members to join in which was a lovely demonstration of just how much the group meant to them and gave them the chance to say their own ‘thank you’ to Director and Choreographer, Claire Saddington, who was stepping down.

Bright costumes were used to convey the characters and the set was swiftly changed between acts by the young performers. The singing was strong and the choreography suited all of the numbers.  Well done to all of the production for their support to the young people to give them this great opportunity.

The evening also included a little taster from the cast of ‘Calendar Girls – The Musical’ which MMTG are performing in March and which promises to be a great show.

There was a super finale featuring songs from Matilda and the audience were invited to sing along with ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ at the end.  The assembled audience were hugely appreciative of all the different songs, routines and acts and the young cast were excellent at engaging with those watching the show and supporting audience participation.  The evening went on to include a range of ‘Clubland appropriate’ fundraising opportunities, along with tasty refreshments. I do hope the evening was also a financial success.

Congratulations to the Cast, Crew and Production Team who had clearly worked really hard to give the audience a very entertaining evening.
