Once again STARS delighted their capacity audiences with a first class Pantomime. It was very well acted indeed, with many first class performances. Tilly Greer was Cinderella, and how well she performed in her acting and with a good singing voice, her stage presence was first class. Tilly had an excellent Buttons in Ian Pearson, who was in complete control throughout the entire show. Cinderella's suitor, Prince Charming, was well played by Luke Van Djk, and Dandini was excellently performed by Victoria Baines, at short notice. The Ugly Sisters were well played by Alan Anderson and Ellis Leatherbarrow who were Begonia and Wisteria respectively. Their make-up was as usual very colourful. In the second half they invited two children to make them up, well, what a mess they made of it, (much to the audience’s delight).
Baron and Baroness Hardup were well played indeed by Tony Middleton and Sheilagh May. The Baroness soon got the audience going with boos, for her dealings with Cinderella. We had Sherlock Holmes characters in the persons of Pewer and Simpal, namely Jasper Bruce-Wright and Jessica May who were very good indeed. Of course, you have to have a good fairy, and Ann Greer fitted the part perfectly. King Charles was very well performed by Peter Power, and Queen Camilla was well played by Melanie McNiff. There was an excellent Chorus to support the cast, having many disguises, in particular in the wood when they were trees. A highlight of the Pantomime was the Coach which came out of the side of the stage, well lit with lights and drawn by a horse, whose excellent head was made by a member of the company. The scenery was really well done and painted by members and very well designed. The costumes were also provided by the Society. Jonathan Clamp had a small ensemble just right for the show. Cinderella was the first Pantomime the Society produced in 1984, and they have done a panto every year since then. Long may they continue to entertain their parishioners and their regular customers. Well done Stars.
