~~I really enjoyed this Pantomime, written by Lee Redwood the story, sticks to the traditional tale we all know and love but has its own unique touches, its directed by Sarah Haberfield and she has done a great job with the cast. Lee is also musical director, so the singing, and the songs are very good.
Debbie Crowton is great as the north country Fairy Godmother; she has a lovely great smile and she get the audience, on her side straight away.
As in all Panto’s you have the baddies, and in this show there are three, the characters are played very well by Jo Mansfield (Baroness Hardup), Chris March (Lavinia) and Martin Mansfield (Lucinda) as the ugly sisters, getting the audience to boo and hiss in all the right places, they take great pleasure in being absolutely vile to everyone around them, especially to Baron Hardup (Nick Squires) and his daughter Cinderella.
Hermione Mason plays Cinderella beautifully: and is very good in her role, she has a lovely singing voice, and you really feel for her when Lavinia makes her rip up the invitation to the ball. Prince Charming, (Shannon Fisher), is also very good and very confident as the Prince, and together they make a lovely pair, with their voices blending beautifully.
One of my favourite characters is Buttons (Jack Haberfield) and he played this very well and the audience was with him from the word go. His lovely smiling face lit up the stage every time he came on, and there were some great moments between him and Cinderella.
Sorcha Fisher (Dandini) was very good and I liked Bodgit (Martin Pitman) the Broker’s man and the money sketches with Baron Hardup were very funny. The chorus all enjoyed the show the adults and the children, all looked like they were having a great time.
The costumes where very nice, and I liked the coach in which Cinderella went off to the ball in.
I hope the rest of the week went well and if the first night was anything to go by then the audiences are in for a treat.
