Perhaps the most popular of all the Christmas Pantomimes PMCS modernised the traditional pantomime whilst retaining all most of the much loved characters.
Whilst not being a big fan of pantomime this is always one of favourites, as much as anything because they always work with a live three piece combo which always adds a certain sparkle – and at the same time eliminates that awful ‘gap whilst the introduction is playing’ and there is a tendency for people to ‘stand around’ waiting for their note! Here, two notes and in means things can move along well. I must just mention the costumes – which were simply superb with several changes throughout the show.
I must congratulate PMCS in that they always take their pantomime very seriously. Rather like a farce, pantomimes have to be slick and the pace has to be kept up. There is also a certain skill required in engaging ‘face to face’ with an audience – which not all actors have! So many congratulations to Buttons for engaging the children so very well (I am sure the little girl behind me would have had no voice at all the day after).
I did think there was too much dancing, the dancing was good but many of the children round me lost interest so that everyone who followed the dancers had to work harder to get the pace going again.
I liked the transformation scene it was very well planned and worked well with Oohs and Ahs all round - Result!!
I understand it was another sell-out show – so very many congratulations to PMCS for another traditional and much-loved pantomime.
